More
information about the structure of
People in Action
People
in Action
is a registered charity and limited company, and supports
over 150 people in the community, to live in a large range
of ordinary houses, flats and maisonettes, all over the Midlands.
The
organisation started in 1985 and has grown rapidly. There
are several large houses catering for six to eight service
users, but the majority of the houses are for four people
or less. We also support a number of individuals who have
their own tenancies and live independently.
How
do People in Action offer support?
Our role
is to provide the support to enable people to live ordinary
lives in the community, taking advantage of the full range
of opportunities available, in running a home, work and leisure.
Each
house/flat has a team of support workers who work on a rota
basis to provide the required support. This means that staff
are expected to be flexible and be able to work shifts, which
are often unsociable and which include early mornings, evenings,
weekends and bank holidays.
The support provided is person centred and will vary and depend
on individual needs.

a dedicated manager who offers support and supervision on
a regular basis.
All staff benefit from initial induction training when they
start with the organisation. We have a staff development manager

for all staff. These can include in-house training, one day
courses, National Vocational Qualifications and LDAF and a
variety of other professional qualifications.

Within the organisation,
the services are monitored through the management structure,
via the Service managers, Operations Managers, and the Directors.
The finances of each service are regularly checked and audited
by our Finance team. We also have annual quality audit returns
from families and services users. In addition, to the various
internal monitoring systems, we have external auditors, for
example, Supporting People inspections, Social Services Departments
and also inspections from the National Care Standards Commission.
This involves planned visits, and unannounced visits, by inspectors,
to ensure that our services meet the legal requirements of
the National Care Standards Commission.
