More
about the structure of People in Action.
People in Action is a registered charity and limited company,
and supports over 150 people with learning disabilities, to live in a large
range of ordinary houses, flats and maisonettes, all over Warwickshire. The
organisation started in 1985 and has grown rapidly. There are several large
houses catering for six to eight service users, but the majority of the houses
are for four people or less. We also support a number of individuals who have
their own tenancies and live independently.
How do
People in Action offer support?
Our role is to provide the support to enable people to live ordinary
lives in the community, taking advantage of the full range of opportunities
available, in running a home, work and leisure.
Each house/flat has a team of support workers who
work on a rota basis to provide the required support. This means that staff
are expected to be flexible and be able to work shifts, which are often unsociable
and which include early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
The support provided is person centred and will vary and depend on individual
needs.
What support is provided for staff?
People in Actiion have currently over 200 staff, most of whom are
part time. Each service has a dedicated manager who offers support and supervision
on a regular basis.
All staff benefit from initial induction training when they start with the organisation.
We have a staff development manager who ensures that ongoing training opportunities
are availabe for all staff. These can include in-house training, one day courses,
National Vocational Qualifications and LDAFF and a variety of other professional
qualifications.
The Structure of People
in Action
Directors: People in Action has five
volunteer non executive directors, who along with the Managing Director of Operations
and the Managing Director of Finance are responsible for the overall running
of the organisation.
This group formulates the policy and direction of the organisation.
Senior Management Team: This comprises of three Operations Managers and
a Training Manager. They are responsible for the implementation of policy development
of new services and the internal monitoring of current services.
Service Managers: We have a number of Service Managers. These people
are directly responsible for managing their individual services on a day to
day basis.
Who monitors the services provided?
Within the organisation, the services are monitored through the management
structure, via the House Manager/Assistant Manager, Locality Managers, the Chief
Executive and the Directors. The finances of each service are regularly checked
and audited by our Finance team.
In addition, to the various internal monitoring systems, we have external auditors,
supporting people inspections from the Primary Care Trust and Social Services
Departments and also inspections from the National Care Standards Commision.
This involves planned visits, and unannounced visits, by inspectors, to ensure
that our services meet the legal requirements of the National Care Standards
Commission.
